PE

Physical Education lessons include a range of individual disciplines such as gymnastics, swimming, dance and athletics, along with team sports and games. Our school uses the PE Hub resource to support the co-ordination, teaching and learning of Physical Education.

Every year, there are six units which deliver the necessary breadth of context and activity. As for other subjects, the long-term plans work on a two-year cycle. In addition to class teachers, some lessons are taught by Eco Coach PE Solutions in accordance with our curriculum map.

During EYFS and Key Stage 1, children develop the fundamental movement skills: co-ordination, balance and agility. During Key Stage 2, the range of games and sports taught becomes broader, and the children will also take part in outdoor activities. They will perform dances, take part in athletics and gymnastics, and attempt to achieve personal bests in various activities.

Swimming lessons take place Montsaye Swimming Pool for Year 3 & 4 children throughout the year.  Later in the school year, extra swimming sessions are offered to those children in Y6 who are yet to secure the necessary end of Key Stage 2 requirements:
1. Swimming 25m unaided with a recognised stroke

2. Using a range of strokes effectively

3. Performing safe self-rescue

Throughout the year, children get many opportunities to take part in inter-school events: some are competitive, and some are aimed at increasing participation levels.
