At Hawthorn, we assess children carefully and regularly to understand what they know, remember and can do. Assessment helps teachers identify strengths, address gaps in learning and plan teaching that meets the needs of every child.

We use a range of assessment approaches throughout the year, including National Standardised Tests (NTS), end-of-unit maths assessments, phonics assessments, the Reception Baseline Assessment and KS2 SATs practice tests.

Your child will also complete statutory assessments at key points during their time at Hawthorn:

• EYFS: Early Years Foundation Stage Profile and Good Level of Development (GLD)

• Year 1: Phonics Screening Check

• Year 4: Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

• Year 6: Key Stage 2 SATs
