Online Safety

🌐 Technology in the 21st Century

At Hawthorn, we believe technology is more than just a tool— it’s an essential part of how our pupils learn, communicate, and prepare for the future. In today’s world, children, young people, and adults use digital resources every single day, so it’s vital that schools equip pupils with the skills they need for life-long learning and future employment.
What does ICT look like in school and beyond?
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) includes a wide variety of exciting and interactive resources that continue to grow and evolve at a rapid pace. Our pupils use technologies such as:
🌍 Websites and online learning platforms
💬 Email, instant messaging, and social networking
📝 Blogs, wikis, and online collaboration tools
🎧 Podcasting and video broadcasting
🎮 Gaming and interactive media
📱 Smartphones and mobile devices with internet access
These tools open up incredible opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and connection.
Staying Safe Online
While technology is exciting and powerful, we also recognise that it comes with challenges. Not all online spaces are consistently monitored, so it’s important that pupils learn how to navigate them safely and responsibly.
That’s why at Hawthorn, e-Safety is at the heart of our approach to technology. We teach pupils not only how to use digital resources effectively, but also how to make safe, respectful, and legal choices online—whether in the classroom or at home.
By building these skills, we empower our pupils to become confident digital citizens, ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.
